Bacchus Marsh survived a first-over journey to triumph in the featured $11,000 Not Listed Preferred Trot during Sudbury Downs' first card of the season on Saturday evening over a track rated good

O U Legacy (Mario Rivest) was the fastest away from Post 6 and he laid down panels of :29.3, 1:02 and 1:32.4 while Bacchus Marsh, an eight-year-old chestnut gelding sired by Incredible Abe, and Paul Maclean progressed on the outside along the way. Bacchus March, the 2-1 second choice, finally collared the pacesetter before entering the stretch and he charged on to win by two lengths in 2:02.2.
The favourite, Broadway Seelster (Michael Mac Neill), recovered from an early miscue and rallied off second-over cover to place. True High Voltage (Scott Altizer) finished third off a pocket-trip.
Trained by Dion Maclean for the Shaws Creek Stable of Orangeville, Ont., Bacchus March picked up his fourth win of the year and 19th of his career lifting his total bankroll to over $250,000.
Michael Mac Neill enjoyed a successful evening winning with three of his pupils on the 11-race program. Mac Neill guided back-to-back winners in the first two races with Mr Choquette (2:01.2) scoring by 13-lengths and Hbfs Slapshot (1:59) winning by six. The resident of Ayr, Ontario returned to the winner's circle in Race 6 with Fact Of Fame (1:59.3).
Mac Neill has recorded six training wins so far this season earning $25,525 in purses. The 33-year-old horseman has sent a total of 42 winners postward in his career good for $185,109 in winnings. On the driving side, he placed third in the Sudbury standings last year with 67 wins and $336,726 earned.
