Mohawk Racetrack played host to a seven-race docket of qualifiers on Monday morning (April 24), and the second race of the session featured the charted return of Harper Blue Chip, who will look to reach the $1 million earning milestone this season.

James MacDonald was in the sulky for trainer Mark Steacy, and he lined up the Majestic Son bay in the outside Post 6 for the morning dash.

Harper Blue Chip, who had last trotted in a charted race in December 2016 at Woodbine Racetrack, gunned to the lead off the gate and would stay there for the duration of the mile.

MacDonald sent the six-year-old horse through the fractions in a pedestrian :29.2, 1:01 and 1:31 before asking for some late trot.

Harper Blue Chip finished off the mile with a :27.3 final quarter and won by three-quarters of a length in 1:58.3. Whosgoingtocatchus (driven by Phil Hudon) sat a pocket trip and finished second, while Dia Monde (Tom Durand) was third through the mile and finished third.

Harper Blue Chip is owned by Mark Steacy (of Lansdowne, Ont.), David McDonald (Cornwall, Ont.), David Reid (Glenburnie, Ont.) and Dr. Shaun Finucane (Kingston, Ont.). From 39 career races, Harper Blue Chip has won 10 races and boasts earnings of over $927,000.

Other victorious horses during the session included Casimir Overdrive (1:56.3), Makasi (1:56.1), Ticket To Seattle (1:59.1), Rockn Opium (1:57.4), Mass Psychology (2:00.1) and P C Foreign Affair (2:00).
