There wasn’t much pari-mutuel love given to Statesman N in Sunday evening’s $11,000 Preferred 2 for horse and gelding pacers at Flamboro Downs, but that didn’t stop him from posting a narrow victory for veteran horseman Doug Brown.
Statesman N, sent off at odds of 11-1, slid into the five-hole in the early stages of the contest while Two Of Clubs fired to the front and sliced out fractions of :26.2, :56 and 1:25. Still sitting fifth as the field headed into the final quarter, Statesman N unleashed a :29.2 closing panel while rallying for the head decision over Saulsbrook Peach in 1:55. Mister X tagged along to finish third.
The victory was the third of the season for the 30-time winner, who is owned by Abbott Stables Limited of Toronto, ON. Trainer/driver Doug Brown watched the nine-year-old son of Christian Cullen-Club Sport lift his overall cash stash to $533,092 with the win.
