Driver Sylvain Filion took a “catch me if you can” approach in Tuesday’s $15,000 Preferred-2 Trot at Georgian Downs, and it turned out to be a profitable plan of attack.

Canbec Fridolin shot to the lead from Post 6 and successfully knifed out intervals of :29, :59.3 and 1:28.1 before using a :29.1 closing panel to win by one-quarter of a length over Lexis D J in 1:57.2. Groom Hanover came on late to round out the top three finishers in the seven-horse affair.

Sent off at odds of 6-1, Canbec Fridolin notched his third win of the season and the 27th of his career. Richard Moreau trains the seven-year-old son of Cherry Hills-La Coquette for partners Claude Hamel of Ayer’s Cliff, QC and Lapharmaciedekedgwick Inc of Kedgwick, NB. The veteran has stashed away close to $394,000 in lifetime earnings.
