Fast Snap moved twice to the front and powered clear down the stretch for a 1:56.4 victory in the featured $11,000 optional-claiming trot at Flamboro Downs on Thursday, April 23.
Paul Davies pushed his trainee out of the pylon post to lead the group of nine into the first turn. Mercutio (Travis Henry), front-stepping from post eight, drove past the leader to take over at the quarter in :28.2 but was quickly pocketed as Fast Snap circled back to the top at the entry to the second turn.
Fast Snap enjoyed a three-length cushion through the half in :59.1 until first-over favourite Hey Ralphie (Scott Coulter), on a long march from fourth, brought pressure heading onto the backstretch. Fast Snap remained in control past three-quarters in 1:27.4, and the gelding edged clear of Hey Ralphie coming off the final turn and sailed away to a 3-1/4-length victory. Hey Ralphie finished second, followed by Mercutio.
Fast Snap has won back-to-back starts for owners Paul and Nicole Davies of Arthur, Ont., moving to two-for-five on the year. The four-year-old son of Archangel-Candidcamerakosmos is now four-for-21 lifetime and has earned $108,790. He paid $15.50 to win.
