For the second time this week, Katherine B held off her female foes in Preferred action for driver Alfie Carroll and trainer Gord McDonnell.
Fresh off a Wednesday win at the Western Fair District, Katherine B was back in-to-go and prevailed in Saturday's $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap at Flamboro Downs.
The seven-year-old daughter of Western Ideal led the compact five-horse field through panels of :29, :58.1 and 1:27.4 before holding off the pocket-pulling Doo Wee Rusty (J Harris) by a nose in 1:57 flat. Zip Car (Garrett Rooney), the race's favourite, had the slight advantage in a three-way show battle, two and a half lengths behind the winner, over Topanga Canyon (Robert Shepherd) and Insincerity (Bob McClure).
Sent postward at odds of 5-2, Katherine B returned $7.20 for a $2 win ticket.
She has now earned $22,990 in 15 starts this year for owner E. Thomas Knight of South Woodslee, Ont.
The win for Carroll, Canada's 2016 leading driver, was one of four on the night.
