Terror Time and Fresh Herb kicked off the 2010 Ontario Spring Series for three-year-old colt and gelding pacers with impressive wins in their respective $20,000 divisions on Friday night at Woodbine Racetrack

.

Terror Time rallied from off-the-pace to easily capture the opening contest for driver Mark MacDonald in 1:52.3. The gelded son of Western Terror - Hatchery was 2-3/4 lengths better than runner-up Ashton Seelster (Keith Oliver) with Broadies Song (Rick Zeron) finishing third. Terror Time returned $7.60 as the second choice in the wagering.

The Shawn Robinson trainee has now won three of nine starts this season for owners Ian Fromowitz of Richmond Hill, ON and Gerrie Tucker of Montreal, QC. The clocking shaved more than a full second off his previous lifetime best.

In the second division, Fresh Herb converted off a perfect, pocket trip for driver Steve Condren in an identical time of 1:52.3. The son of Camluck - Coriander Hanover turned back Milliondollar Art (Mario Baillargeon) by 3-1/4 lengths with pacesetter Lil Bit Lil Bit (Luc Quellette) holding on for the show spot. Fresh Herb was sent off as the bettors’ choice, returning $4.30 to win.

It was the third win in just four career starts for the Bob McIntosh pupil whose previous best win time was 1:56.1. McIntosh co-owns the colt along with the C S X Stables of Liberty Center, Ohio.

The Ontario Spring Series will continue with second-round action next Friday night at Woodbine.

In this week’s $38,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace, 7-5 favourite Voelz Hanover (Mario Baillargeon) was out and rolling early around the first turn reaching the lead past the :26.3 quarter pole. She carved out middle stations of :55 and 1:23.3 while last week’s upset winner Windsong Filou (Mark MacDonald) tried it from first over with A Ps Money Maker and Rick Zeron following her cover. Windsong Filou managed to wear down the leader in the stretch, but a quick-closing A Ps Money Maker made a dash for the cash and prevailed by three-quarters of a length in 1:51. Windsong Filou held on for second over Ladycino (Randy Waples).

A Ps Money Maker returned $6.40 to win as the 2-1 second choice. The five-year-old daughter of Cardmaster Hanover-Mint Kondition is trained by Travis Umphrey for Terry Hamilton of Lethbridge, Joe Tinelli of St. Albert and Shir Win Racing Stable of Edmonton, AB. The win was her fourth in nine tries this year pushing her earnings to $84,100.
