Four-year-old trotter Buckys Angel made his Western Fair debut a winning one on Friday evening (April 22), taking the featured $13,000 Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap for trainer/driver Wayne MacLean.

Buckys Angel delivered as the 4-5 favourite, prevailing off a pocket trip in 1:56.2 and paying $3.70 to win. He overtook the hard-leaving Willyorwonthe (Colin Kelly) after panels of :27.2, :57 and 1:26.3 to score by three-quarters of a length. The mare Power And Grace (Lormer McClure) followed 5-1/2 lengths behind, holding on for third over last week's winner Scene A Magician (Garrett Rooney).

Buckys Angel started his current three-race win streak at Flamboro Downs with an early April 1:56.1 national season's record for trotters on a half-mile track. The Archangel-Giona gelding is now six-for-11 on the year, with more than $25,000 banked for owner/breeder Jocelyne Menard of Chelmsford, Ont. Buckys Angel reached the $100,000 lifetime earnings mark with his 15th winning effort.
