For the third week in a row, the double-gaited April Showers Series contestant named Morven lowered his lifetime mark at Rideau Carleton Raceway
.
Making his third start for the Rene Allard stable and second in the series, five-year-old Andover Hall son Morven and driver Denis St. Pierre (a four-time winner on the card) went wire-to-wire to take the first of two $7,500 third leg divisions in 1:55 flat. The slight second choice to his second leg series winning stablemate Upfrontoutthedoor held off the pocket-pulling Battle Call (Guy Gagnon) by a neck. Morven paid $5.30 to win.
Miramontman advanced first over to win the other division in 1:55.3 for Gagnon and owner-trainer Michele Raymond. Pocket-sitter Riding With P (Ted McDonald) finished one and a half lengths behind in second while tempo-setter Perfekjenlmnkalfas (Simon Allard), a two-time preliminary winner, settled for third this time out. Miramontman paid $12.20 for the mild upset. The four-year-old Blissfull Hall gelding also hit the board in his two prior series starts, which were his first outings this year.
The April Showers Series is for male pacers that are non-winners of $30,000 lifetime as of Dec. 31, 2011.
