The last half-decade has seen what many consider some of the greatest three-year-old trotters in recent memory dominate their age group. Muscle Hill, Deweycheatumnhowe, Donato Hanover, Glidemaster and Vivid Photo were all
fantastic at three. Trotting trainer Trond Smedshammer has said he doesn't see a horse dominating the three-year-old ranks this season.
The trainer commented on the 2010 three-year-old trotting crop in a recent interview with Meadowlands Racetrack announcer and TV host Ken Warkentin.
In the interview, Smedshammer -- conditioner of another elite three-year-old trotting colt, the late Windsongs Legacy -- was discussing the importance and purpose of qualifying races. The discussion naturally flowed into the topic of the Revenue S colt Break The Bank K, who is eligible to many of the big dances this coming stakes season, including the prestigious Hambletonian.
Last year, Break The Bank K showed all that he has the motor to find success on the stakes scene. The youngster won his first three races last year before finishing a half-length back in second to Il Villaggio in his $200,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes final at the Meadowlands Racetrack. A few starts after scoring a 1:56.2 neck decision in the Champlain Stakes at Mohawk Racetrack, Break The Bank K would go on to win in 1:55.3 over Dover Downs.
"He's about a month away (from qualifying)," said Smedshammer, who made the comments last week. "He's doing really good. He's a big strong horse that showed last year (that) he had tremendous speed.
"I think it's an open year. He's one of a few horses that can get it done. We'll see when they start going behind the gate who's got the most class and who can do it, but I don't think there is one horse that is going to dominate this year."
