With the Pepsi North America Cup a little less than two months away, a number of sophomores will be asked to pass a number of difficult tests to see if they’re cut out to compete in the nation’s richest affair for standardbreds.

One of those horses is Stealth Bomber, and he managed to overcome a number of hurdles to win in impressive fashion Thursday evening at Mohawk Racetrack.

In rein to Sylvain Filion, the son of Rocknroll Hanover-Artistic Vision left sharply from Post 10 and crossed over to get away fifth in the early going. After Beyombo hustled the field to the quarter in :27.2 over the ‘sloppy’ surface it was Dreamfair B J who rushed up on the outside and worked his way to the top.

It was a brief lead, however, as Filion had Stealth Bomber on the move and up to clear to the lead at the half-mile marker in :58. The colt shelled out :28.4 speed in the third quarter and had the field chasing him past the next post in 1:26.4. A :28.1 closing panel earned him the win by a head over Walter Mitty in 1:55. Beyombo was third.

Frank Bellino of Bronxville, NY owns the full-brother Rock N Roll Heaven (1:47.3 - $2,774,478). Tony O’Sullivan trains the lightly-raced sophomore who now boasts a 3-2-0 record from five starts this season.
