Live harness racing returned to Truro Raceway on Sunday with Schooner and driver Darren Crowe stealing the spotlight with a victory in the afternoon's top class.

The season-debuting Schooner went gate-to-wire to win the $1,275 Winners Over Pace by five lengths in 1:56.4. Bonnys Mac (Bernard McCallum) and SA Summers Luck (Ryan Ellis) rounded out the top three finishers.

Fred Saunders trains the six-year-old American Ideal gelding for owner Anthony Beaton. He won 10 of his 30 starts last season, including his final two races in December at Truro by open lengths.

Crowe and Saunders opened the Truro season as Good Night Hanover held on for the quarter-length victory in the first race. Crowe also won the third race with Pam Moore trainee Mary Legatto.

Truro's 2013 leading reinsman Ryan Ellis had a driving double during the nine-race card.
