Eye-Catching 2010 Debut For Mcaracas

Things looked hopeless for the Ben Baillargeon-trained Mcaracas around the final turn of his 2010 debut at Woodbine Racetrack on Monday evening

, but a bold move in the late stages of the mile took the colt from the outhouse to the penthouse.

Mcaracas, who is listed at 85-1 in Trot Magazine's 2010 Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book, found himself sitting eighth while stacked up fourth-over going into the final turn – an unenviable position on the best of days. To make matters worse, the colt was four-wide at the mid-way point of the turn.

But when Mario Baillargeon pulled the trigger the son of Mcardle-Smooth Latin N went into sprint mode and picked off rivals like they were standing still. Mcaracas swept to the lead with a breathtaking move and drew off to win by four lengths in 1:52.3. That clocking matched the career-best record he earned at Mohawk Racetrack in his rookie season.

Ecuries Vert Et Blanc Inc of Pierrefonds, QC and Gilles Parent of Ottawa, ON share ownership on the youngster, who put together a 3-1-1 record while banking just over $47,000 in nine starts in his freshman campaign.
