Penzance Hanover Triples In Open

The winning streak is now up to three straight and counting for Penzance Hanover, who front-stepped his way to a an eye-catching triumph in Thursday’s $20,000 Open Handicap for pacers at Dover Downs.

Owner/trainer/driver Art Stafford, Jr. rolled Penzance Hanover to the lead from Post 6, and together they sliced out speed panels of :26.2, :54 and 1:22.3 before halting the teletimer in 1:49.3. It was 1-1/4 lengths further back to find the even-money favourite, JJ Flynn, with Itsrockandroll A surviving a parked out trip to hang on for third prize.

Sent off at odds of 9-2, the seven-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere-Platinum Hanover improved his 2021 record to 6-0-1 from just nine trips postward. The 21-time winner now boasts a bankroll that stands at $256,840.

Thursday's card concluded the 2020-2021 meet at Dover Downs. Earlier in the day, leading honors were recognized.

Joe Columbo emerged as the meet’s leading trainer while the meet’s leading driver was Tim Tetrick. Trotter Northern Express was named as the horse of the meet.
