Donatover and Stephane Brosseau were the second choice in the evening night cap, but after they took over at the half, they never looked back to win the $10,000 Preferred Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Wednesday evening (April 19).
As the gate pulled away, Duke Lavictoire was on the charge to clear the top first and Stella Alpha was in pursuit while Donatover got away third. After sitting through the opening quarter in :29.1, Donatover made his move to the front. At the half in :57.4, Donatover was in the lead by 1-1/2 lengths and he maintained that lead through the three-quarters in 1:27. Around the final turn, Brosseau opened up and they crossed the wire 2-3/4 lengths ahead of favoured Gettin Messi (Robert Shepherd) in 1:56. Duke Lavictoire (Jacques Beaudoin) was third.
Donatover is a 35-time winner trained and owned by John Macmillan. The eight-year-old son of Donato Hanover and the Explosive Matter mare Anonyme Hanover has $373,286 in career earnings.
