Bucktober accomplished three notable achievements on Tuesday (April 18) winning the $13,000 Preferred Trot at The Raceway at the Western Fair District in a new lifetime mark and posting a ninth seasonal win, the most on Canadian soil in 2023.
Trainer Tyler Borth was once again in the bike of Bucktober in the top class, seeking redemption after a fourth-place finish in last week's (April 11) feature halted an eight-race win streak of the duo. Borth eased the gelding out of post three, getting away fourth as Power And Grace (Brett MacDonald) led the field to an opening quarter in :28. As they reached the half in :58.2, Bucktober was still gapped out, leaving him 5-1/2 lengths off of the leader. Eyes Of Justice (Travis Henry) was out on the move from third just before the three-quarters in 1:27.3 and Bucktober hit the gas to follow his lead. Around the final turn, Bucktober moved three-wide and sprinted in the stretch to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:58.2, a new career mark. Power And Grace finished second and Sicario (Jason Ryan) was third. Bucktober paid $9.90 to win.
Bucktober (Flanagan Memory - Armbro Equinox) is a winner of 16 races in 32 career starts and the four-year-old gelding has been out of the money on only three occasions in those starts. Tyler Borth, Bill Borth and Karen Sparling co-own the career earner of more than $80,000. In addition to his nine seasonal wins, Bucktober has had a second and two fourths to complete his 12 races of 2023 thus far.
