Off the odds-on choice, Major Hill hustled off cover to score his third consecutive win in the $10,500 Preferred Handicap Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday (April 17).

Lovemyrockinbird took the lead to a :27.2 first quarter before yielding command by the stands to Legion Seelster with a lap to go while The Light Speed angled off the pegs from fourth with Major Hill in tow to a :55.3 half. The Light Speed ranged to match strides with Legion Seelster to three-quarters in 1:23.3 and continued to dig into the leader before forging to the front off the final turn. Driver Pascal Berube then swung Major Hill off cover as the field spun for home, and the nine-year-old Art Major gelding hurried home to put a half length in front of The Light Speed at the end of a 1:52 mile. Legion Seelster finished third, beaten two lengths, with Lovemyrockinbird fourth.

Owned by Francois Morin, Major Hill won his fifth race from 12 starts this season and his 32nd from 244 overall. The Yves Tessier trainee has now banked $558,871 and returned $3.80 to win.
