Europan Union has put himself in position to sweep this year’s Matts Scooter Series thanks to a powerful performance in his second leg assignment on Saturday
at the Meadowlands Racetrack.
Andy Miller mapped out the winning trip for Europan Union, who took home top prize in the opening division thanks after pacing the mile in 1:52.3. The son of No Pan Intended-Pansatlantic enjoyed a ground-saving trip throughout the first half of the mile before going first-over and drawing away to the easy win. Highbeta Blue Chip was second best and the show dough went to Memphis Mobster.
Erv Miller trains the homebred for the Peter Pan Stables Inc of Pepper Pike, Ohio. The colt, who stepped to a 1:53.2 victory in his the opening leg of the series, now owns a 3-3-1 record in his first seven starts of the season. The lion’s share of the purse pushed his bankroll over $50,000 to date.
The second division saw Cambassador kick home with a powerful brush en route to taking his split in a career-best clocking of 1:51.3. The son of Cams Card Shark-Absolutely Cam, who is 68-1 in Trot Magazine's 2010 Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book, and driver Ron Pierce had no problem chasing down Rockin The House and Eagle Jolt for the win.
Jeffrey Snyder of New York, NY and Robert Unice of Elizabeth, NJ share ownership on the gelding, who hangs his harness bag in the barn of trainer Steve Elliott. It was the first start of the season for the pacer, who qualified twice at Pompano Park before turning in a prep at the Meadowlands on April 8. He went 2-for-7 in his rookie campaign and banked just over $12,000 along the way.
