Mohawk Qualifier Recap

A 10-dash card of qualifiers went postward Friday morning at Mohawk Racetrack. Older stars and Pepsi North America Cup eligibles have come out of the woodwork in the last couple of weeks. This morning was no exception

Putting in her second qualifying performance of the season, the Carl MacArthur-trained Camluck six-year-old Southwind Madonna took to the track in Race 1. After cutting all the fractions, the $804,871-earning mare finished three-quarters of a length back in second to Secret Weapon, pacing her mile in a solid 1:53.2.

In Race 2, Apaches Fame colt Trail Boss put in his first charted line since the Ontario Sires Stakes Super Finals last fall at Woodbine Racetrack. The student of Gregg McNair was solid on the morning, going wire to wire to capture the dash in 1:54.3 for pilot Doug McNair. Trail Boss has been rated at odds of 60-1 in Trot Magazine's 2009 Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book.

Two other Cup eligibles participated in Race 2, as Western Ideal colt Buffalo Rome (95-1 in Spring Book) finished fourth in the mile for driver Steve Condren and trainer Rene Laarman, pacing in 1:56. Art Major colt Captain Sir (20-1 in Spring Book) finished fifth in the dash, also pacing in 1:56.

Six-year-old Dream Vacation mare Susies Magic put in her second qualifying performance of the year in Race 3 for trainer Tony O'Sullivan. The career earner of over $743,000 in purses finished third, trotting in 1:58.3 for driver Jody Jamieson.

The Carl Jamieson-trained Western Terror colt World Away (85-1 in Spring Book) put in its first qualifying effort of the season in Race 6. In rein to Jody Jamieson, to colt was on the move during the back half and eventually finished third, pacing his mile in 1:58.1.

The Jamiesons hooked up again in Race 8 with Real Desire colt Chief Of The Beach (80-1 in Spring Book), another that was putting in its first charted line of the campaign. The colt finished third, pacing his mile in 1:55.1.
