Parked and pressing for the lead at the quarter pole, Rise Up Now went on to post a drawing away victory in Sunday evening’s $11,000 Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap for horse and gelding pacers at Flamboro Downs.
Louis Roy found himself parked by Monte Cristo past the first marker in :27.4 before eventually working to the top with the Richard Moreau trainee. Rise Up Now went on to carve out middle fractions of :56 and 1:24 before scooting home in a :29-second clip en route to winning by 5-3/4 lengths over Julerica in 1:53. Monte Cristo managed to hang on for the show award in the eight-horse affair.
Rise Up Now, a five-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere-Northwestern, is owned by Brad Grant of Milton, Ont. The gelding now boasts a 4-for-12 record this season after going just 4-for-37 last year. The 18-time winner has banked more than $265,000 to date.
