Double Dribble was first to cross the wire in the $5,000 Open Pace in Northfield Park’s sixth race on Monday, April 15.
Mike Foote of Brandenton, Florida owns the seven-year-old pacer. Sam Schillaci trains and drove the gelding.
Double Dribble (Allamerican Ingot-Lills Dream) got away third through an opening quarter of :27.1. Schillaci pulled first-over and ground-out a victory through fractional times of :56.1, 1:25 and 1:54.3 before winning by one and a half lengths.
Monday’s triumph increased Double Dribble’s lifetime win tally to 17. He returned $17.20 on a successful Win wager.
Sure Thing took the $5,000 Open Trot for owner/trainer Elpidio Bernardi Jr. of Carleton, Michigan in the evening’s eighth race.
Sure Thing (Keystone Nordic-SF For Sure) started from Post 5 and sat the pocket through fractions of :27.4, :57 and 1:27.2. Driver Ronnie Wrenn Jr. pulled, took the lead and held a one and a quarter-length win in 1:57.3.
Nine-year-old Sure Thing now has 31 career wins. He was the race favourite and returned $4.00 on a successful Win wager.
