Blank, Mutti Comment On BC Challenges

On the heels of the recently released report on how to both revitalize and make BC's horse racing industry sustainable, Hastings Racecourse General Manager Raj Mutti and Great Canadian Gaming Corp. Vice President Howard Blank have each commented on what has to be done to keep racetracks viable.

A report by CTV News has cited the fact that Hastings has been able to draw fans to the raceway by utilizing unique events, but it acknowledges that attracting crowds is a challenge.

“In 2011 and 2012 we increased our attendance by double digits,” Mutti was quoted as saying in the article. “We also increased our wagering by 12 per cent last year, followed by five per cent in 2011.”

“This is the time for us to look, take hold of what we have and look forward because that’s the key,” Blank told CTV News. “Where are we going to be in 10 years? What can we do to ensure the next generation comes and enjoys the product?”
