Brown Sweeps Spring Sizzler Splits

Driver Gord Brown sent both Pretty Boy Cam and Offshore Drilling three-wide to capture a pair of $5,500 Spring Sizzler eliminations for $8,500 claiming pacers on Saturday night over a sloppy track at Kawartha Downs

.

Five-year-old gelding Pretty Boy Cam ($18.30) got away near the back of the pack in the opening division but angle out wide to come on for the half-length victory in 2:00 flat for trainer Nick Fife and owner-breeder Robert Cuthbertson of Hastings, Ont. The son of Cammibest-Pretty In Pearls notched his second win in 13 starts this year, beating out Gamble With Care (Russell Lowery) and front-stepper Card N Whiskey (Jason Ryan).

Sophomore pacer Offshore Drilling ($2.90) sat fifth for most of the mile before rallying home off cover to score in 1:58.4 by two and three-quarter lengths for trainer-owner John MacMillan. The I Am A Fool-Precious Angel gelding was followed by Jac Spade (Doug Hie) and Sixty Degree Club (Todd Budd). The win was his first in three seasonal starts.
