After dominating the distaffers this winter, So Much More ($2.80) picked up where she left off in the return of the Fillies & Mares Preferred at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday night (April 15).
Following a fifth-place finish competing with the boys last weekend, So Much More took on the gals as the 2-5 favourite.
With the rain pouring late in the card, the track was downgraded to 'good' for the featured $32,000 handicap pace. Dabarndawgswatchin (Jody Jamieson) and Better Be Donna N (Jonathan Drury) left from posts five and six, respectively, with the latter clearing into the first turn.
After following in fifth-place through opening panels of :27.2 and :56, outside assignee So Much More launched her attack and swept up to challenge Bettor Be Donna M approaching the 1:25 third quarter mark. Drawing even off the turn, she then forged ahead down the stretch to score the 1:53.3 victory, with Dabarndawgswatchin closing up the inside late to get within a neck at the finish line. Heavens Showgirl A (Bob McClure) finished four lengths behind in third.
The victory capped off a Good Friday grand slam for driver James MacDonald after the hot-handed reinsman had a six-win performance on Thursday's card.
So Much More, who has won half of her 10 starts this year, notched her 46th victory in her 100th start, lifting her bankroll over $900,000. Don Beatson trains the six-year-old Big Jim mare and shares ownership with Kenn Beatson and Cole England.
