Twin B Wrangler went to the front and didn’t look back en route to a narrow triumph in Monday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 for pacers at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Alfie Carroll hustled Twin B Wrangler through fractions of :27.4, :57 and 1:25.3 before using a :30.2 closing quarter to prevail by a neck over race favourite Leafs And Wings in 1:56. Ja El Pocketrocket was third.
Keith Cassell of Smiths Falls, Ontario owns and Victor Puddy trains the five-year-old son of Mach Three-Stryper. To date, the pacer has managed to stash away career earnings of $120,290.
Monday’s card also featured a set of Preferred-3 events – one for trotters and one for pacers.
Excellence rallied to a 2:00.1 triumph in his $7,350 assignment for Scott Coulter and trainer Ian Downey. The seven-year-old daughter of Kadabra-Noble Message, who was sent off at odds of 35-1, drew clear to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Northern Buzz, with So Sure taking home third prize.
It was the 17th lifetime win for the career earner of $174,506. She is owned by Susan Downey of St. George Brant, Ontario.
Smokin Bear was a popular winner in his Preferred 3 assignment, and his game plan was a simple one – go to the front and don’t look back. Alfie Carroll rolled the five-year-old son of Grinfromeartoear-Smokin Pistol to the top from the rail and the gelding travelled through fractions of :29, :58.2 and 1:27.2 before using a :29.3 closing quarter to seal the deal in 1:57. He was a nose better than Mach Of Ballykeel. Major Wager took home the show dough.
Trainer Wayne Preszcator of Exeter shares ownership on the 16-time winner with John Kodric of Toronto, Ontario. He’s stashed away more than $134,000 to date.
