Goodnite Goodluck and driver Kevin Cummings won the $11,000 Open Pace in 1:57.1 at Buffalo Raceway Saturday night (April 13).
The win was the third this year for Goodnite Goodluck, a seven-year-old bay by Bettors Delight who registered seven wins in 39 starts last year for owner Mark Jakubik of West Seneca, New York.
J D Perrin trainee Goodnite Goodluck ($3.30), the prohibitive favourite in the race, settled in second from post four as eventual third-place finisher Fantasypan (Jack Flanigen) set all the fractions in the race of :28.3, :58.1, and 1:28.3. As the field hit the top of the stretch, Goodnite Goodluck swung to the inside passing lane, and with a :28.2 last quarter-mile, beat second-place finisher Machman (Ray Fisher Jr.) by one and three-quarter lengths at the finish line.
The $5,500 winner's share of the purse put Goodnite Goodluck’s seasonal earnings at $21,595 and lifetime bankroll at $243,982.
Cummings and Jack Flanigen led all drivers with three wins apiece on the card.
Racing will resume on Wednesday April 17, with first post scheduled for 5 p.m. eastern time. The Pick 7 will have $19,188 carryover for Wednesday as no one has hit the wager since the beginning of the meet. It starts in race six.
