Celebrity Abs flexed his muscles Tuesday night when he rallied from off the pace to score his first win of the
year in the $13,000 Preferred 2 Trot for horses and geldings at Georgian Downs.
Abbey Road C and Keith Jones left sharply from post position No. 2, but Striking Lyric with Jody Jamieson quickly crossed over from Post 7. Refusing to sit a pocket trip, Abbey Road C retook the lead at the first quarter in :27.4 and led the way past the half-mile mark in :57.1 and three-quarters in 1:26.2. From there Striking Lyric attempted to chase down his front-running rival but the 7-1 fourth choice, Celebrity Abs and driver Rick Zeron, rallied from fifth with a :28.4 final frame to win in a career-best 1:56.2 by a length and a quarter.
Striking Lyric finished second and the favoured Titan Park (J.R. Plante) was third over Abbey Road C.
Celebrity Abs, a six-year-old Incredible Abe gelding, scored his first win of the year in 10 starts. The winner of 12 races and $135,981 in purses is trained by Shawn Irvin for Costas Hajicostis of Angus, Ont.
