Royalty Beer repeat his feat from two weeks ago in his last appearance at The Raceway at Western Fair District when he held off a late challenge again to win the Preferred Handicap Trot on Monday, April 13.
After putting in a start at Woodbine Mohawk Park between his London appearances, Royalty Beer quickly overcame the outermost post for driver Samuel Fillion in his return to The Raceway on Monday evening, firing to the front ahead of his six inside foes in the $12,500 top trot and carving out fractions of :29, :59 and 1:28 without a serious threat until the end of the mile. In the stretch, the pocket-popping Livingitlarge (Lorne House) took a shot but came up a head short as Royalty Beer held him off for the 1:58 victory, with Marvin Hagler (Brett MacDonald) following four lengths behind in third. He paid $2.80 to win as the 2-5 favourite.
Jean-Francois Maguire trains and co-owns the Royalty For Life-Beer Maggs gelding with breeder Ecuries Maguire Inc. of Sainte-marie, Que. A career winner of 38 races and nearly $470,000 in purses, Royalty Beer has won the Preferred at The Raceway three times this year and is now four-for-12 overall in his seven-year-old season.
