After both finished runner-up in the opening round of the Ontario-Sired Spring Series, Elises Delight and Chedda Chedda landed winning blows in their respective $18,000 divisions for three-year-old pacing fillies on Thursday night (April 13) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
In the first division, Elises Delight delivered as the 2-5 favourite in a coast-to-coast 1:53 effort.
Driver James MacDonald spun her competition around the Campbellville oval to post a 2-1/2-length win over Mist Amber, who motored from last to take second. Dewitt This Moment snagged third from pocket-sitter Sweetest Belle, who settled for fourth.
Jeff Gillis trains and co-owns Elises Delight, a daughter of Bettors Delight, with Ellen Ott. She paid $2.50 to win.
Chedda Chedda also fulfilled her 7-5 promise but struck by different means in the other division.
Landing in seventh to the quarter, driver Louis-Philippe Roy launched into attack with Chedda Chedda to the half and recouped from a 12-length deficit to spring by pocket-popper Tesla Power in the lane and win by a length in 1:53. True That stormed from last to take third and Lady Jess, off a first-over push, settled for fourth.
Chantal Mitchell trains Chedda Chedda, a daughter of Betterthancheddar, for owner Decision Theory Inc. She paid $4.80 to win.
The lone $18,000 Ontario-Sired Spring Series split for trotting fillies went to HP Extra Ice in a 1:57.1 mile.
The daughter of Alarm Detector planted in third and sat off a tempo set by Southwind Chardnay before springing into stride around the final turn. HP Extra Ice collared Southwind Chardnay in the lane and held off a late charge from favourite Muscling Vegas to win by three-quarter lengths. Southwind Chardnay settled for third and Match Meif You Can took fourth.
Benoit Baillargeon trains and co-owns HP Extra Ice with Claude Hamel, Santo Vena and Nunzio Vena. He paid $7.30 to win.
