Will County Judge Marzell L. Richardson, Jr. has set bail for driver Angus Lake at $500,000 in relation to the Monday, April 11 drunken vehicular manslaughter death of Michelle Eustis in the backstretch of Crete, Illinois' Balmoral Park
raceway.
A report by the Chicago Sun-Times explains that prosecutors in the case were looking to have bail set at $1 million and that Lake is scheduled to appear in court again on May 3.
The article also clears up a misconception in regard to the case, as it states that Lake, 41, and Eustis, 25, were not married, as previously reported.
The report also shines a little bit of light on the status of Heather France, who was with Eustis on the horse when Lake hit them with his truck. France, 21, suffered a broken leg and required surgery.
Will County Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Fillipitch has been cited as saying that Lake’s blood-alcohol level after the accident was 0.147, nearly twice the legal limit.
Michelle Eustis is the daughter of Chuck Eustis, III, trainer of St Elmo Hero, who has taken the harness racing industry by storm since debuting last July and reeling of 25 consecutive wins.
