Outlaw Sharktastic wired her competition in the Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at Century Downs for the second consecutive week for trainer, driver and co-owner Nathan Sobey.
After posting a 20-1 upset from an outside post last week in her return from a winter break, Outlaw Sharktastic was sent postward as the 7-5 favourite from the inside post in the $12,500 feature on Friday, April 12 and proved her initial win of the season was no fluke.
Outlaw Sharktastic fronted the field of a half dozen distaffers the entire mile while setting fractions of :28.4, :58.4 and 1:26.2 en route to the 1-1/2-length victory to lower her seasonal mark to 1:55 flat. She returned $4.80 to win. Outlaw Blue Isle, the longest shot on the board at 16-1, followed in the pocket for David Kelly, while 3-2 second choice If Only Id Known finished third for the second straight start after attempting another first-over backstretch bid, this time in rein to Phil Giesbrecht.
Outlaw Sharktastic improved her career record to 13-14-11 from 89 starts and now has $136,024 banked in purses. Sobey co-owns the six-year-old Smart Shark-Outlaw Alleyesonme mare with Glenda Winkleman of Edmonton, Alta., and Glenn Pinel of Calgary, Alta.
Sobey sent out back-to-back winners to start the back half of the eight-race program, also scoring with the maiden-breaking three-year-old filly Oye Como Va in 1:59.2.
