It was a solid Monday night at the office for trainer Jim Marino who celebrated a three-win performance on the 10-race card at Fraser Downs, and longshot players snagged his final winner of the evening at a juicy price.

Marino, who dominated the back-half of the card after being shut out through the first six races on the program, got the ball rolling in Race 7 with Angelo who rallied for a 1:57.3 triumph with driver David Kelly in the bike. That one’s stablemate, Shoot The Whiskey, provided a 1:57.1 score for driver Brandon Campbell in the very next race.

Then in the finale – the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Open – it was Western Summit and David Kelly posting a wire-to-wire triumph in an eye-catching clocking of 1:53.4.

Kelly rolled the six-year-old daughter of Vertical Horizon-Kismet Killean to the lead from Post 5 and after slicing out splits of :27, :57.2 and 1:25.3 they stormed home in :28.1 to win by a length over the dead-heating tandem of In High Cotton and Moosette in 1:53.4.

Sent off at odds of 13-1, the distaffer improved her seasonal record to 5-2-1 from nine tries with the win while boosting her lifetime earnings to $82,282. The 11-time winner is owned by Marino of Surrey, BC.
