Outrageous Art had no problem turning aside the five foes he faced in Thursday’s $13,000 Preferred Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway, but things weren’t quite as simple for Cndiana Jones, who rallied to win the lone division in the opening leg of The Spring Fling Series

.

Outrageous Art, who was a runner-up in the class one week ago, got away second in Thursday’s assignment before brushing to the top shortly past the :27.1 opener. Once in charge of the tempo, Outrageous Art chopped out intervals of :56.3 and 1:24.2 for trainer/driver Mark Steacy before using a :28.2 closing panel to seal the deal by 3-1/4 lengths. Second best to the 1:52.4 winner was Cajon Thunder, with Sunset Art rounding out the top three finishers.

Stan Klemencic, David Reid, Malik Racing Stable and Diane Bertrand share ownership on the five-year-old son of Artsplace-Righteous Renee. The victory was the second of the season from just four opportunities for the 14-time winner. The pacer has banked more than $173,000.

The opening leg of The Spring Fling Series for fillies and mares went to Cndiana Jones, who used her off-the-pace skills to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:56.4.

In rein to trainer/driver Donald Jobin, the four-year-old daughter of Art Major-Armbro Cinnamon got away seventh while Upfrontandpersonal sprinted the group to the quarter pole in :28.1 before giving way to the parked out Barockey. After clearing, Barockey led through middle splits of :58.1 and 1:27.1 before being overtaken in the lane. Cndiana Jones, who was first over in the final half of the $7,500 affair, kept chipping away and used a :29.1 closing quarter to narrowly hold off Olivias Way. Barockey was a lapped-on third.

Sent off as the 5-2 third choice in the wagering, Cndiana Jones won for the third time this season for Jobin and partner Danielle Belisle of Clarence Creek, ON. The six-time winner has stashed away $46,461 to date.

Trainers Rene Allard and Jamie Copley each enjoyed a productive night at the office thanks to three-win performances. Allard clicked with GD Airliner (1:53.4), Chips Shadow (1:57.4) and Empire Hanover (1:57.2) while Copley triumphed with Shanghai B G (1:54.3), Lets Make Ideal (1:56.1) and CMR Maybe Loaded (1:56).
