A patient and confident approach from driver Travis Henry with trotter Vesuvio Bi proved to be successful in Thursday night's $9,400 Preferred 3 Trot at Flamboro Downs.
Henry settled the third choice away fifth and second last in the early going as co-favourite Its Huw You Know (Ed Hensley) handled the early fractions of :28.3 and :59 without any form of serious pressure. That unfettered lead would not last much longer as Henry commenced his first-over attack before the half and quickly gained on the tempo-setter.
Heading down the backside and approaching the third station, Vesuvio Bi made to equal footing with Its Huw You Know and poked a head in front as the third quarter was reached in 1:28.2. Increasing his margin his every stride, Vesuvio Bi pulled away to win by a length and a half with the mile timed in 1:57.4. Its Huw You Know stayed for second with the other co-favourite Waikiki Hanover (Marc St. Louis, Jr.) completing the triactor.
For Vesuvio Bi ($6.80), a five-year-old gelded son of Manofmanymissions-Palm Beach Bi, the win was the third of the season and 15th lifetime to boost his earnings to $128,811. Martin Lachance trains for Lachance Racing Stable of Millstone Twp, N.J. and Dan Mogridge of Hillsdale, Ont.
