For the second week in a row, Match Bayama used his off-the-pace skills to take home top prize in Rideau Carleton Raceway’s $14,000 Preferred Pace

. The gelding halted the teletimer in 1:53.4.

John MacDonald, who had an eight-win night at the office, mapped out a perfect two-hole trip for the eight-year-old son of Goliath Bayama, and that played a key role in helping the gelding double up in the class. He was one of three winners on the card for trainer Sebastien Giroux.

Best Show In Town shot to the front in the six-horse affair, with Match Bayama hot on his heels through panels of :27.2, :55.4 and 1:24.2. A first-over Peenie softened up the leader in the third quarter, and when Match Bayama found clearance in the lane he had no problem pulling off the 4-1 mild upset. His :29.1 final quarter speed propelled him to the win over Best Show In town and race favourite Peenie.

Les Ecuries Giroux Inc, Claude Giroux and Jacques Caron of Quebec share ownership on the pacer who now owns a 3-1-0 record in six attempts this season. The 35-time winner has potted more than $342,000 in his career.
