Ontario Racing Commission Manager of Veterinary Services Dr. Adam Chambers has announced that all restrictions placed on horses stabled in Woodbine’s Barn 10 are now removed, effective April 10.
In a March 27 notice, a requirement to maintain increased biosecurity measures, monitor temperatures, and limit use of ponies remained in place. These measures are now removed.
The precautions started early in March with a report of EHV-1 in a five-year-old thoroughbred filly residing in Barn 10. The horse was removed from Woodbine to isolation, and no other horses were affected.
The infectious and serious nature of this disease prompted these measures and reinforced the need to protect Ontario’s equine athletes. As a standard practice, horsepeople are reminded of the importance of establishing appropriate biosecurity measures.
