Heres My Ticket was the winning ticket in the $100,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund final and Monochromatic won her third in four starts to take the $27,500 Mares Open/Handicap pace
Tuesday at Dover Downs.
Starting from outside post 8, driver Ross Wolfenden quickly got Heres My Ticket into good racing position and took the lead. After the three quarters Ben Stafford, Jr. pulled Joyanna to the outside to challenge the pacesetter on the final turn. In the lane, Heres My Ticket was too much as she rolled to a 1:53.2 victory for breeder-owner-trainer Eli Scott. It was the third win in five career races for the sophomore daughter of Three Olives-Real Elegance. Joyanna, a Badlands Hanover filly, was second best with Powerful Honey, by Powerful Toy, and Roger Plante, finished third.
“She wasn’t as sharp as last week (when Heres My Ticket set a season’s record over a five-eighths mile track of 1:52.3),” said Wolfenden. “But she had more than enough in the stretch when it counted.”
In the winner’s circle, Scott revealed, “[The late] Lloyd Arnold gave me the mare [Real Elegance] as a bonus because I was second-trainer for his great mare Sanabelle Island.” He added, “Heres My Ticket raced only once last year because of sickness, but she really has come around.”
The DSBF victory boosts her earnings to $69,524.
Designer Bags, second in the $100,000 DSBF Final last November, had to settle for a 1:55.3 win in the $20,000 DSBF Three-Year-Old Filly consolation pace. Allan Davis drove the daughter of Roddys Bags Again-Alyshima for breeder-owner Ed Walls and trainer David Rearic. Grix Gadoo (Vic Kirby), another Roddys Bags Again, closed from far back to finish second in front of Proud Maryet (Dave Hill). The victory was the seventh in 12 lifetime starts with two seconds and two thirds for the $126,127 career winner.
Monochromatic enjoyed an enviable two-hole trip behind the Montrell Teague-driven No Bad Luck In the $27,500 distaff pace before pulling out on the final turn and moved on to score a new lifetime record 1:51.4 victory with Corey Callahan posting his second win of the day for trainer Dylan Davis. Freedom Crossing closed with a rush for Ron Pierce to take show money. A seven-year-old by Dream Away-Miss Ty, Monochromatic won for the third time in four outings and her fourth in six starts for North State Street Stable. Of her total $455,610 earnings, $62,125 has come in 2012.
Delaware-sired trotters meet Wednesday in the third of four $100,000 DSBF Three-Year-Old finals this week. As usual, a $27,500 Mares Open/Handicap pace heads the regular card.
