The co-favourite at 8-5, Buddy Weiser went wire to wire in the $12,000 Open Pace on Sunday, April 1 at Fraser Downs, besting the other 8-5 favourite Cool Cowboy in 1:52.1.

Driver Serge Masse sent Buddy Weiser to the top, leading Cool Cowboy through a :26.3 opening quarter with Royal Renegade parked from third. The order did not change as Buddy Weiser went by the half in :54.4 and remained unchallenged on the lead until Premium Stock, tipping first over as Royal Renegade retreated, moved up to third at three-quarters, timed in 1:24.1.

Premium Stock soon faltered around the final turn, while Buddy Weiser held a two-length advantage over Cool Cowboy into the lane. The six-year-old Western Ideal gelding widened his margin to the line, finishing three-and-three-quarter lengths in front of Cool Cowboy, with Gotta Have Nukes riding the rail to take third.

Owned by Veikko Parjunen and trained by Rod Therres, Buddy Weiser won his second race in nine starts this season and his 21st in 61 overall, earning $175,203. He paid $5.20 to win.
