Saturday morning's qualifying session at The Meadowlands featured a number of standouts from 2016 making seasonal debuts.
Grand Circuit regular Crazy Wow (Joe Bongiorno) made his first outing of the year a successful one, carving out all the fractions for a 1:55.4 mile over debuting stablemate Dayson (Yannick Gingras), with the track listed as 'good' and judges allowing two seconds.
After a million-dollar sophomore season in 2015, Crazy Wow only managed one win as a four-year-old but finished his season strongly managing cheques in five straight stakes events for $184,450 of his $270,264 in seasonal earnings. His final race of the year came in the 2016 TVG Free-For-All Final where he was just a scant nose back of winner Obrigado.
Crazy Wow (Crazed - No Pan No Gain) is trained by Ron Burke for Our Horse Cents Stables, Stable 45, J And T Silva Stables and Deo Volente Farms LLC.
Another pair of late season additions to the Burke stable also qualified successfully over the off-going. Ontario Sired pacing mare Windsun Glory was picked off late last week in her four-year-old debut but turned the tables this time out with a pocket-popping 1:54.2 effort for Gingras over stablemate Stolen Glimpse (Bongiorno). In the next qualifier, Indiana-sired Downthehighwy (Bongiorno) ironically employed pocket-sitting tactics for a 1:55.4 score by a neck over debuting Check Six (Gingras).
Qualifiers were condensed due to scratches, leading to a pair of the previously carded fields to be cancelled.
