Side Effects has proven successful in the distaff claimer worth $14,000 at Woodbine Mohawk Park, notching her sixth straight win on Monday (March 9) despite post eight.
Coeuratout Du Lac (Louis-Philippe Roy) was the first to the top, handling the first quarter in :28.1 with Talldarklatte (Bob McClure) following her lead. Side Effects (Doug McNair) was caught on the outside through that opening panel before taking command through the half in :57.3. Kobra Kate (Daryl Thiessen) advanced on the outside up the backstretch to hit the three-quarters first in 1:26 and she prepared for a final quarter dual with Side Effects to her inside.
Side Effects and Kobra Kate continued to duke it out down the stretch and with one last final push at the wire, Side Effects prevailed by a half length in 1:54.4 over Kobra Kate. Coeuratout Du Lac rounded out the top three.
Kyle Fellows trains the four-year-old Control The Moment - Windsun Jagra mare for owners Patrick Dillon, Henry Tarniowy, and Steve McGill. Side Effects won her seventh race in nine appearances this year, returning $44,700 in her bankroll. The win was her ninth career triumph in 32 starts with an overall tab of $84,595 accumulated.
