After a win in a conditioned trot last week, Johnny Buckshot returned back to the Preferred Handicap Trot level on Monday (March 9) at The Raceway at the Western Fair District and left with another win and the lion's share of the $12,000 purse.
Scott Wray and the Katie MacNeil student retreated to sixth off the car, biding their time and watching the action unfold on the frontend with Passarino (Jason Ryan) guiding the way. En route to the :59.4 half, Johnny Buckshot pulled to the outside to follow in the wake of first-over advancer Patriarch Hanover. As Patriarch Hanover's bid started to stall, Johnny Buckshot slid over once more to the third tier with his sights set on victory through the three quarters in 1:28.1. Passarino was up by six at the third quarter pole, but Johnny Buckshot pressed forward.
With a :29.2 final quarter, Johnny Buckshot passed the leader and kept on going to win by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:58.4. Passarino had to settle for second and Livingitlarge (Lorne House) finished third.
Johnny Buckshot recorded his second win on the year and rewrote his career record to 23-18-6 in 86 starts. With the win, the trotting gelding pushed his earnings past the $200,000 mark with now $202,627 in the bank. Brad Wilson bred and owns the seven-year-old Il Sogno Dream - Third Avenue gelding. He paid $6.20 to win.
