Once Western Summit made it to the top, she wouldn't let any of her rivals take her spot en route to victory in the $10,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred on Thursday, March 7 at Fraser Downs.
Scott Knight and the Jim Marino trainee left from post two and were caught on the outside in the lead through the :27.2 opening quarter. Clearing the top after that initial fraction, Western Summit clicked out two more panels in :58 and 1:26.2 before going on to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:55.2. Salary (Blaine Chappell) pocketed second and Stonebridge Jade (Allan Molloy) took the show spot.
Co-owned by Paul Sanders and Marino, the eight-year-old Vertical Horizon-Kismet Killean mare won her fourth race — and fourth straight race — from five starts this year. In her career, Western Summit has made 135 starts with 28 victories tallied and $194,432 banked. She returned $5.20 as the 2-1 bettors' choice.
