Off the 6-5 favourite, Uptown Hanover ground uncovered toward the leader to the final turn and got to the line in front to win the $12,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace at Fraser Downs on Monday (March 7).

Rockin Mystery motored to the top from post five with Mrs Suhwiggins sitting second and Hottieonthehorizon third. Uptown Hanover raced fifth to a :26.4 first quarter before driver Scott Knight sent the four-year-old Somebeachsomewhere mare on a first-over mission, gaining ground into a :58 half and pressing forward as the pace accelerated up the backstretch. Rockin Mystery tripped three-quarters in 1:25.2 as Uptown Hanover loomed closer to the outside and remained a threat off the final turn. The Kelly Hoerdt trainee then straightened for the finish and overpowered Rockin Mystery to win by a head in 1:53.4. Mrs Suhwiggins gave chase in third and Hotpieceoface finished fourth.

Co-owned by Hoerdt with K. Carole Dunbar, Uptown Hanover won her fifth race from six starts this season and her 10th from 33 overall, lifting her lifetime earnings to $181,561. She paid $4.40 to win.
