Little Red Chev defeated a field of male trotters to earn her first win of the year in Wednesday night's featured $7,500 Preferred 3 at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

There was lots of action during the first quarter as three leavers took turns on the front end. Sweeping up from third, Little Red Chev and driver Scott Coulter made the last lead change, clearing at the :29.4 quarter pole. The chestnut mare then proceeded to lead the way through middle splits of 1:00.1 and 1:29.2 while Avuncular (J Harris) looped Mandeville (Bob McClure) for the pocket spot and Kennel Buddy (Travis Henry) progressed from the backfield. Little Red Chev remained clear of her rivals turning for home and widened her lead to three lengths in the stretch before hitting the wire in 1:59.4. Kennel Buddy edged out Avuncular for the runner-up role.

Moving off the WEG Circuit, Little Red Chev was sent postward as the 4-5 favourite and paid $3.90 to win.

Dennis Morrissey trains and co-owns the seven-year-old Duke Of York mare with Ken Avery of London, Ont., and Dr. David James Peden of Ingersoll, Ont. Little Red Chev now boasts 23 career wins and earnings totalling $186,754.
