There were strong, gusty winds at Buffalo Raceway on Wednesday night (March 8), but Voltina found things to be just a 'breeze' in the featured $8,200 pace for the mares.
Scoring from the rail, Voltina (Kevin Cummings) made every step a winning one and defeated Dontch Remember (Jim Morrill Jr.) by one and three-quarter lengths in 1:58.3 over the fast track.
Voltina had no problem in getting to the lead as the favoured Deliciouslynaughty broke stride just as the starting gate opened. After putting up fractions of :29.3, :58.4 and 1:28.3, Voltina enjoyed a two-length advantage heading into stiff wind down the stretch. The margin proved to be more than enough as Voltina ($11.80) was able to hold off Dontch Remember and Honor Roll (Shawn McDonough), who took second and third-place, respectively.
Owned by Chs Racing and trained by Anthony Cummings, Voltina (Allamerican Native-Best Not Tell) earned her second win in eight tries this year. The victory upped the seven-year-old mare's bankroll to $12,378 this season and $152,919 lifetime.
Racing will continue on Friday night at Buffalo Raceway with a 12-race card set for 5 p.m.
