Steady Breeze stormed home a winner in the $10,800 Fillies & Mares Open Handicap Pace featured on Friday night (March 6) at Fraser Downs.
Trained and driven by David Hudon, the six-year-old Camystic mare sat third through opening panels of :27 and :56 before blowing by the front-stepping Tahiti Seelster at the 1:24.1 third quarter mark.
The victory was her first since being claimed for $12,500 by owner Kelly Hudon following back-to-back wins in late January. She now boasts 30 wins and career earnings totalling $233,267.
Steady Breeze equalled her 1:53.2 lifetime mark that she established as a four-year-old when previously campaigned by Hudon for a nine-month period.
Coming off a fourth-place finish in last week's Open, Steady Breeze was sent postward as the 8-1 fourth choice and returned $18.70 to her backers at the betting windows. Custard Lite sprinted off the cover of favourite Queen Of Thrones and was crowned runner-up, finishing 1-1/4 lengths behind the winner.
