The third and final leg of a Pop-Up Series was contested on Thursday, March 6 at Woodbine Mohawk Park, with Aragonite delivering a 16-1 shocker as part of a Carmen Auciello training double.
There were three $10,000 divisions on the evening for pacing males, and two for fillies and mare pacers who were non-winners of $5,000 in their last four starts and in for a claiming tag of $8,000.
Driver J.R. Plante secured the pocket early from the rail for Aragonite in their division, sitting behind Music To My Gears (Brett MacDonald) through a quarter of :29. Music To My Gears led to the half in :58 before 3-2 favourite Flying Art A (Trevor Henry) surged alongside at three-quarters in 1:26.3. Aragonite searched for room before skimming the cones late to beat out a late-charging Fern Hill Breeze (Billy Davis Jr.) by a neck in 1:57. Music To My Gears held sway for the third position.
The victory was the first in seven outings this season for Aragonite. The five-year-old gelded son of Sportswriter-Fade Away is owned by 2353829 Ontario Limited. Aragonite paid $34.40 for the victory.
The other two divisions for pacing males were won by Play The Ace (Tyler Jones, $12.90) in 1:58 and Dirty Lil Piglet (James MacDonald, $3.40) in 1:55.4.
Auciello also took the finale, the third and final division for mares with Chevrons Bypass N.
James MacDonald positioned the even-money favourite third-over turning for home, before out-duelling Rambaran Rose (Tyler Borth) in the lane to score by a half-length in 1:57.1.
The seven-year-old daughter of Captaintreacherous-Capture My Heart is owned by Daniel Sarafian and earned her first victory of 2025.
The other division for pacing mares was won by Lisas All In (Tyler Jones, $16.60) in 1:59.2.
The $20,000 finals for each Pop-Up Series are slated for Thursday, March 13 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
