A pocket trip prevailed for the eight-year-old Lucky Chucky gelding Katch Kanna, with the Jacques Dupont trainee capitalizing off a cat-bird trip to take the $10,000 Preferred 3 Trot on Saturday (March 6) at Flamboro Downs.
Driver J. R. Plante secured the two-hole ride for Katch Kanna off post 2 while pylon-starter Sicario slid to the lead. On the point, Sicario set splits of :28, :58.4 and 1:27.3 while enduring middle-half pressure from 6-5 favourite Ole Jack Magic, who pulled first over just before the second circuit. Ole Jack Magic continued to pressure Sicario into the stretch, but Katch Kanna revved from the pocket once hitting the open stretch and surged to a one-length victory.
Owned by Les Ecuries Dorleans Inc. and Sylvain Descheneaux, Katch Kanna won his 26th race from 138 starts, earning $206,572. He paid $9.70 to win.
