Saulsbrook Genesis now shares the title as the fastest horse ever over the Miami Valley five-eighths mile track. He tied the 1:49 record set by Nuclear Dragon in 2018 on Sunday (March 5). The five-year-old son of Sunshine Beach won the $30,000 Open Handicap for driver Chris Page, beating Rollinlikethunder and Little Rocket Man in a mild upset.
Both Saulsbrook Genesis and Robert Again left aggressively when the starting gate wings folded. Saulsbrook Genesis was content to let Robert Again cut the early fractions once the pair cleared their adversaries prior to the :25.4 first quarter. With Robert Again still hustling on the front, Saulsbrook Genesis savoured the pocket ride past the :53.3 half until Page sent the winner his marching orders on his way to the 1:21 third quarter. From there, Saulsbrook Genesis paced a last quarter in :28, under mild urging from Page, to become the track’s co-fastest miler in its 10-year history.
The winner paid $15.80 despite the fact he was winning for the second time in three weeks. Ron Burke trains Saulsbrook Genesis for the No Recall Stable of Strongsville, Ohio. He now has won a dozen times and recorded 25 on-the-board finishes in 42 starts.
Racing will be conducted Monday through Thursday of the coming week with post time at 4 p.m. (EST) daily.
