"There is no doubt there is a social cost to gaming. But, too often we forget, there is also a social cost to joblessness."
Those words come from Robert DeLeo, House Speaker for Massachusetts. In a speech to the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, DeLeo proposed two casinos and slot machines at the state's four race tracks to generate revenue and blue-collar job opportunities for the state.
"I have cautioned before and I will caution again: Gaming is not a panacea," stated DeLeo. "But it is a plan that creates a new economic sector and new jobs in Massachusetts when we need them most."
